Enthusiastically,
the owner of the car mart in-charge of the sale of the stolen vehicle arranged
for a meeting and was immediately arrested. The marketer however, during
interrogation explained that he agreed to sell the car for a percentage and assisted
the police in the arrest of Olawale Olanbiwonnu, who brought the car for him to
sell.
The suspect apparently sensing something had gone wrong with the sale of the vehicle, parked out of his Ikorodu residence and also stopped going to the office to evade arrest, but police investigators with their efficient team of officers, tracked him to another church in Ikorodu where he was eventually arrested.
The vehicle owned by one of the first generation banks in the country, was reported stolen at gun point when robbers invaded a hotel in Iju – Ishaga area where the manager of the bank was lodging.

“I met him
at Dammy Jay Hotel, Ikorodu where I usually go to relax. On the day I met him,
he came to my table, asked if he could join us and I said yes. After we got
talking, he offered to buy drinks for everybody and from there we became
friends; I usually look out for him whenever I go to the hotel to relax because
of the free drinks and at other times when I tell him am broke, he gives me
money (Those were moments I was struggling and I had no job) and that made me
like him more.
“I saw Abbey about weeks after we met and explained to him that I was jobless and only helping out in my church as an officer and asked if he could help with some money. He asked me if I could help his sister, who was travelling overseas to sell her car and I told him that I would try. I consulted my pastor twice to use his spiritual gifts to help me ascertain that I go ahead with the business. The first time, my pastor told me to go ahead and market the car. I took the car from Abbey and began to market it but after about three weeks, he took the car from me because I couldn’t get a buyer. Some weeks later, I stumbled on him with the car and I pleaded with him to give me another chance to sell the car.
“Because I was very broke and didn’t want to miss the commission that I’ll get if am able to get a buyer for the car, I went back to Abbey and pleaded with him to give me another trial which he agreed and I went to consult my pastor the second time for him to pray about it. This time, the pastor introduced me to somebody in Lekki who has a car mart at a very noticeable place, where we can display the car for sale. It was here the car was until I learnt that the car was stolen at gun – point. I panicked and ran away but the police caught with me and I was apprehended" Olabinwonnu narrated.
According to the suspect, he hasn’t been able to get across to Abbey, his friend that gave him the car to sell, since he was arrested: "since I was arrested, I have been calling Abbey to come and explain to the police that he gave me the car to sell, but most of the time, he avoids my calls, and at times, his phone is switched off.” He explained.
Confirming the arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said that the suspect is assisting the Police with investigation on how to apprehend Abbey, the man that the suspect is claiming gave him the car to sell. She added that the suspect with the vehicle is presently at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office for further investigations.
